Outdoor Programs

A wide variety of additional outdoor programs are offered within the Redwoods National and State Parks. These are a mere sample of Scopa at the Sea guest favorites:

tidepools_1

Tidepool Walks are ranger-naturalist led and generally last two hours or as tides permit. Participants are guided through local tidepools to explore delicate creatures in the otherwise hidden world beneath the waves. Visitors are encouraged to come prepared: dress for coastal weather and abrupt changes in temperature; bring drinking water and a snack; wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots…leave your sandals behind. Footwear soles must be non-slip for this activity.

Nature Walks immerse park visitors in the forest, shore or prairielands. Participants join a park ranger-naturalist for a regional exploration of the natural communities contributing to one of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet. Walks last thirty to sixty minutes. Prepare for the activity with appropriate clothing and shoes.

Three North Coast Campgrounds within the Redwoods National and State Parks are ideal settings for the sixty-minute Ranger-naturalist led Campfire Programs. The evening presentations may include narrated slide shows, story-telling, music or interactive games led by park staff. Campfire circles and amphitheaters are wheelchair accessible. Participants are encouraged to dress for cool summer evenings in the park environment.

Select events are often scheduled within the Redwoods National and State Parks and can be researched at (http://www.nps.gov/feeds/getNewsRSS.htm?id=redw). On the “Recent Park News” listing, visitors will find descriptions, dates, locations and times for events such as the Redwood Parks Association sponsored Prairie Creek Redwoods Half Marathon and 5k Run/Walk or the Bike and Hike Day also slated for Prairie Creek at Newton B. Drury Parkway. Details regarding cultural events such as the Tolowa Nation Annual Dance Demonstration at Jedidiah Smith Redwoods State Park can also be found on the Redwoods National and State Park news link.
